The DCW Scholarship was established in 2015 by Brian Dickerson, Beverly Pierce, and Trina Ballantyne to honor the life and legacy of Sis. Dorothy Carpenter Wells—a woman whose love for young people and unwavering commitment to education left a lasting impact on her community.
The foundation of this scholarship was made possible through a remarkable act of generosity from Sis. Myrtle Carvalho, who left a $10,000 gift in her will. She believed deeply in supporting ministries that strengthen the whole person—especially by empowering the mind through education and meaningful work. Her gift helped turn a vision into a lasting opportunity for future generations.
Today, the DCW Scholarship continues that mission.
The scholarship supports dedicated Easternnaires pursuing education beyond high school—young people who have demonstrated commitment through worship, academic achievement, leadership, and involvement in extracurricular activities. These students represent the very best of our future: bright, creative, compassionate, and driven to make a difference.
Because of this scholarship, DCW recipients have gone on to earn certificates, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. They now serve communities across many fields—entrepreneurship, education, medicine, ministry, information technology, law enforcement, real estate, and countless service professions. Each success story reflects the lasting power of opportunity.
Since its founding, the DCW Scholarship has raised more than $50,000 and supported (OVER) 42 young people in their educational journey. Every dollar has helped open doors, remove barriers and empower students to pursue their dreams. But the work is not finished.
Your generosity is what keeps Sis. Wells’ legacy alive. With your support, we can continue investing in the next (GROUP) generation of leaders, scholars, and servants.
